Did you know that Asheville Parks and Recreation offers a variety of afterschool programs for youth and teens? Monday through Friday, 2:45-6:00 pm, youth have the opportunity to attend a NC-licensed childcare program at Vance Elementary, or attend a recreational based Afternoon Adventures program at one of our local Recreation Centers.We also offer leadership programming for teens 3:30-6:00 pm. National Girls & Women in Sports Day

The annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. February 18 at UNC Asheville. The event is designed to expose women and girls to a variety of activities that will inspire them to lead active, healthy lives.  Open to women and girls ages 6 and up, this is a chance to try a new sport or fitness class or improve skills in a sport of interest. Registration is $15 per person and includes clinics, a goody bag, a healthy lunch and admission to the UNCA Women’s Basketball game that afternoon.  Register in advance online at or at the event at 9 a.m. 

2017 Bojangles' Easter Eggstravaganza

Mark your calendars and don't miss the Bojangles' Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carrier Park!  The day will be full of Easter fun with free inflatables, facepainting, crafts and entertainment.  Egg hunts for ages 4 to 11 will be at 4 p.m. with a special egg hunt area for toddlers 3 and under.  Bring your camera for a free photo with the Easter Bunny and do the Chicken Dance with Bo, the Bojangles' Famous Chicken!  All children receive a goody bag.  FREE for the whole family!

Fun Day Out!

What do do when the kids are out of school for a teacher workday?  Not to worry - enjoy a day of games, crafts, special events and field trips when youth are out of school for teacher workdays!  It's only $5!  Friday, March 10 and Friday, March 31 at Montford and Stephens-Lee Recreation Centers.  Bring lunch and a drink and we'll do the rest!

Asheville-Buncombe Senior Games

Come on out and enjoy some friendly competition at the 2017 Asheville-Buncombe Senior Games and Silver Arts Showcase.  Registration is now open for area adults over 50 to compete in athletics like golf, track, and swimming, or in the Silver Arts Showcase which  recognizes creativity and artistic talent in many different forms.  Top competitors in each category are eligible to go to the State Games in Raleigh.  Opening Ceremonies will be held on April 22nd and the games will wrap-up with Closing Ceremonies and the Silver Arts Showcase on May 17th.  Click to download the Senior Games registration, the schedule of athletic events, and the Silver Arts application.
